Marina Times Lawsuit Against Supervisor Dean Preston Dismissed
Today, conservative blogger Susan Dyer Reynolds stipulated to dismiss her lawsuit, filed on behalf of the Marina Times, against Supervisor Dean Preston. The lawsuit will be dismissed “with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be refiled. Under the stipulation, Reynolds will get none of the relief requested in her lawsuit.
Despite Industry Opposition, San Francisco Passes Resolution to Back ‘Justice for Renters Act’ and Repeal Costa Hawkins
The San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed Supervisor Dean Preston’s resolution to support the Justice for Renters Act which would repeal the state Costa Hawkins law that limits local rent control. By an 8-2 vote, the Board affirmed the City’s long-standing support for repealing the 30-year-old state law that has prevented San Francisco and other cities from adapting their rent control laws to meet the ongoing housing affordability crisis.

Preston Files Formal Inquiry Into SFPD’s Failure to Comply With State Law Requiring Disclosure of Military Equipment Acquisition & Use
Supervisor Dean Preston, chair of the Government Audit and Oversight Committee, filed a formal inquiry on Tuesday regarding the San Francisco Police Department’s (SFPD) failure to comply with state law requiring Assembly Bill 481, sponsored and passed in 2021 by then-Assemblymember David Chiu. While the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office complied with Assembly Bill 481 (Chiu), the San Francisco Police Department missed its deadline by four months, and has yet to file its report.
New Report: 10,000 Households Saved by SF’s Pandemic Rent Relief
A new report issued today by the City’s Budget and Legislative Analyst reveals that San Francisco’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) provided $61.2 million worth of local rental assistance to 10,110 households from 2021 through March 2024. This is the first comprehensive report on the pandemic rent relief program. San Francisco had by far the largest local rent relief program of any city.
