With Funds from Historic Prop I Budget Deal, City Moves Forward with Purchasing Five Sites for 100% Affordable Housing
Last year, the Board of Supervisors and Mayor London Breed agreed to a groundbreaking spending package for affordable housing, predicated on the hundreds of millions raised by Supervisor Preston’s Prop I ballot measure, including $40 million to acquire land for development of 100% affordable housing. Today, the city is announcing five sites it plans to acquire for an estimated 550 units of affordable housing, including an auto-repair shop at 650 Divisadero Street in Preston’s district.

Nearly one year after the Board of Supervisors and Mayor Breed agreed on an historic investment package for affordable housing, one of the most critical pieces – $20 million for life-safety repairs in public housing – remains unspent, with no timeframe for the funds to be spent, the Mayor’s office revealed at a Budget and Finance hearing today.
Supervisor Preston and Transit Advocates Call on Governor Newsom and State Legislators to Prioritize Public Transit Funding in the Upcoming State Budget
Earlier today, Supervisor Preston introduced a Resolution at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors calling on Governor Newsom and the state legislature to provide much-needed transportation funding to the Bay Area’s struggling public transportation systems. The introduction of the Resolution comes ahead of the Governor’s May revision to his January budget which included a $2 billion cut to public transit funding and no operations funding to address the fiscal cliff facing transit agencies.
San Francisco Supervisor Dean Preston Joins Trans Youth, Adults, and Education Advocates to Condemn Anti-Trans Legislation & Call For Greater Protection of Trans Youth and Adults Here At Home
On Tuesday, transgender youth activists, transgender advocates, community leaders, parents, and education advocates came together to support a resolution being introduced by District 5 Supervisor Dean Preston, which condemns attacks on the trans and LGBQ+ community and calls for further protection of transgender youth and adults. The resolution was presented by the San Francisco Education Alliance to the Board of Supervisors ahead of pro-trans youth mobilizations and the Transgender District’s Transgender Week of Visibility, which is slated to kick off with a youth-led march on March 25th. Preston’s resolution is being cosponsored by the entire Board of Supervisors.

Following the third devastating fire on the Divisadero Corridor in the last five months, District 5 Supervisor Dean Preston called for a city hearing on residential apartment building fires. The hearing will explore strategies for fire prevention and give the public an opportunity to learn about the City’s protocol for responding.
New Report Finds up to $32m in Monthly COVID Back Rent, As Supervisors Vote on Rent Relief Fund
San Francisco tenants have as much as $32 million per month of unpaid rent due to COVID, according to a Budget and Legislative Analyst report released today. The report comes on the same day the Board of Supervisors will vote on a first-in-the-nation program to provide relief to small property owners with tenants unable to make their rent, authored by Supervisor Dean Preston.
