Board of Supervisors Unanimously Passes Ordinance to Help Fill Vacancy at Falletti’s Plaza in NOPA
New Chapter for Vacant former Bank of America Branch
Earlier today, the Board of Supervisors unanimously passed Supervisor Preston’s ordinance to amend the Planning Code to expand allowable commercial uses at the vacant Bank of America building in the North of Panhandle neighborhood. The ordinance will help fill the vacancy at Falletti Plaza with a new business adjacent to the family-owned grocery store, Falletti Foods.
“We are committed to making sure this family-owned grocery store, and the entire shopping plaza at Falletti’s, survives and thrives for years to come,” said Supervisor Preston. “When we discovered that a quirk of prior rezoning from 20 years ago was limiting the possibility of new businesses here, we immediately got to work to change the law, and we appreciate the support of neighbors, owner Tick Faletti, the Planning Commission, and the entire Board of Supervisors to make this happen. We look forward to celebrating the opening when this vacant storefront is filled!”
The adjacent businesses that are part of the Plaza include Falletti Foods, Peet’s Coffee, RT Rotisserie, and Schlock’s. Falletti Foods is a family-run independent grocery store. This site is directly across from the DMV site, where Supervisor Preston is actively working with Assemblymember Ting and State officials to create affordable housing.
“We really appreciate Supervisor Preston’s quick action in working with us to implement the initial 2004 Planning Commission recommendations,” said Tick Falletti, President of Falletti Foods.“Without these changes, the corner of Fell and Broderick at Falletti Plaza was at risk of being vacant for many years to come – and now we have the opportunity to quickly move in a new small independent business by the end of the year.”
