New Affordable Housing Coming to D5!
Friends and neighbors,
I have exciting news to share! Governor Gavin Newsom has announced plans for a 100% affordable housing project at the DMV site located at 1377 Fell Street. This project will include 372 affordable housing units, to be built in three phases, and a new DMV office on the 2.5-acre site.
In November 2022, we introduced a resolution urging state officials to prioritize affordable housing on the DMV site. Since then, Assemblymember Phil Ting and I have been working closely with state officials to repurpose this land for affordable housing. The project will offer homes for residents earning between 30% and 80% of the Area Median Income, addressing the city's critical need for affordable housing.
The Department of General Services will oversee project approvals, including environmental reviews, as this is state-owned land. The development will be a collaboration between Related California and the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC), a non-profit developer.
This continues our work championing affordable housing, especially in light of San Francisco's goal to build over 46,000 affordable units by 2031.
